Nate,

Thanks for the extremely kind words. I remember that we tried to meet up earlier in the year, and like most things I begin, I get distracted with something new and forget to finish up what I started. I would still like to get together sometime to share ideas and talk.

The quote posted gives an opposing view to that of slaves as machines. They have "dignity, commuanl sensitivity, and occasional joy," distinctly human traits. Regardless of how slave owners justified slavery, I cannot understand how owners blind themselves to that fact, that slaves are people. By merely communicating with their chattel, the response back should set slaves above a tool. Yet that did not happen, as perhaps profit was enough for the owners to desensitize themselves.

I think this issue is really interesting, especially because there are at least three cell blockers within our own school. I think that cell blockers should be illegal and I believe more in an "acceptable use policy" for technology in high schools. I really believe in use technology constantly in schools because teens today learn better with technology.
Obviously, we use technology ALL THE Time in this class, I, personally, find it incredibly helpful. :D
But anyway, from the teachers I've spoken to that have cell blockers, I've heard that the school encourages using these devices...Whats up with that? Also, a lot of teachers don't believe that using these devices aren't illegal OR that these devices aren't illegal on school grounds. I'm not qite sure why.
As for the "nanotechnology" approach, I don't think this is right either because parents should be able to contact students in times of emergency or students could be learning through the technology on their cell phones.

Clearly, all stakeholders would agree that change is needed and the last thing any stakeholder will want is to have the DESE declare any school in our district an Acceleration school.
